Need is the mother of an invention and inventions are done by chance. These statements are true for most inventions, and same is the story with jigsaw invention. The inventor of jigsaw Albert Kaufmann was an engineer by profession employed in Scintilla AG company based out of Solothurn, Switzerland.As an experiment he tried replacing the needle of a sewing machine with a saw blade to realize that it will have widespread use. After this incident of 1946, this engineer made Scintilla AG company to produce jigsaws in 1947, Scintilla started marketing these jigsaws under the name Lesto jigsaws. Bosch company later acquired Scintilla AG in 1954 and replaced “Lesto” in jigsaws by “Bosch” in 1964.

The invention of jigsaw was initiated in Scintilla AG company but major modifications were made by Bosch to make it an innovative high performing jigsaw of modern time. Bosch made lot of changes in its design over time to make this tool more workable. The manual mode was transformed into powered mode so that this tool could be used effortlessly. The models that were produced as a result of several modifications were able to create heavy-duty Jigsaw that can be used for massively performed sawing and cutting tasks. Bosch added features like tool-less blade replacement, CutControl and pendulum blade action. Modern powered jigsaws are tough performers not only for hard wood materials but also for cutting of various metal materials. However, blade material should always be compatible to type of application. There are different blade types such as High-carbon steel (HCS), High-speed steel (HSS), Bi-metal (BiM), Tungsten carbide (TC) and Diamond grit blades are often used for various applications.
